Heat stress in extended riot deployments is one of the most consistently documented performance factors in law enforcement operations, and one of the least addressed in equipment design. Officers in heavy protective gear in warm conditions face real physiological performance degradation that compounds over time and affects decision-making as well as physical capability. Haven Gear addresses this at the design level in the Enforcer MP with integrated hydration and cooling systems built into the suit itself.
Why Heat Management Matters in Protective Equipment
Protective gear creates a thermal barrier between the officer and the environment. In cool conditions this is neutral or helpful. In warm conditions it traps heat that the body generates during physical exertion, driving core temperature upward. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has documented heat-related performance impacts on law enforcement officers, with significant effects on reaction time, judgment, and physical capability at core temperatures well below the threshold for medical emergency.
A multi-hour riot deployment in summer conditions, with physical exertion and no ability to remove or reduce protective equipment, creates exactly the conditions where these effects compound.
The Enforcer MP Hydration System
The Enforcer MP integrates a water bladder hydration system directly into the suit construction. The bladder is accessible via a drinking tube without requiring the officer to remove any gear component. In an extended deployment where officers cannot leave formation to access water, integrated hydration is the difference between officers who stay physiologically functional through the deployment and officers who are degrading by the third hour.
The Integrated Cooling System
Beyond hydration, the Enforcer MP includes a reusable cooling gel pack system rated for approximately four hours of active cooling. The gel packs position at the chest, back, and sides, targeting the areas with the highest blood flow near the surface. Active cooling at these positions reduces core temperature accumulation more effectively than ambient cooling alone.
The packs are reusable and rechargeable, which means the cooling capability can be reset between deployments or, for very long operations, during a rotation break. This makes them a practical operational tool rather than a single-use consumable. View Cooling Gel Pack Set →
The Standalone Option
Officers using suit configurations other than the Enforcer MP can add hydration capability through Haven Gear's standalone 2-liter hydration pack, which attaches to MOLLE platforms on the Enforcer MP or any MOLLE-compatible carrier. The Grenadier Bag and Utility Bag configurations also accommodate hydration bladder integration for officers who need accessory storage and hydration in the same carry system. View Accessories →
